For companies or individuals looking for reasonably priced, quality stud welding equipment there are a limited number of places to consider. Unfortunately, it is often too late by the time a company finds out that the stud welder system they have purchased as a “deal” is not up to the task.

The Right Option

There is one solid, dependable option for buying any type of stud welding system. That is to purchase the stud welding equipment directly from the manufacturer or from an approved dealer or distributor.

With this option, you are assured of quality control throughout the production of the equipment. You also have a resource for customer service and support should you have any questions with the stud welder. Additionally, by buying directly from the manufacturer or a distributor, there is the added advantage of being able to order replacement parts, when necessary, as well as finding a source for weld studs for both drawn arc or capacitor discharge stud welding requirements.

The Wrong Options

There are three alternative options for buying stud welding equipment. By taking a closer look at how these alternatives, no matter how good the price may look, are potentially a waste of money let’s take a closer look at the issues with each.

  • Online auctions – sites that offer online equipment auctions are always a buyer beware type of scenario. Typically, the buyer will also have to pay for shipping and, if the seller does accept returns, that the shipping will also be the responsibility of the buyer.
  • Unrecognized brands from retailers – big box hardware stores and even some contractor supply stores will sell the low-cost, imported types of stud welders. Parts can be impossible to find and repairs may also be a challenge.
  • Used equipment – typically, when companies or business sell used equipment, they are getting rid of equipment at the end of its life cycle or equipment with known failures and issues.

Look around at the different manufacturers and distributors to avoid problems later on in ownership and use of the stud welding systems.
