Making your own t-shirt design is a fun way to show your creative side. You may even be in the market to create and design your own T shirt or several different shirts, and start your own online business.

You don’t have to be extremely artistic to design your own T shirt, as top shirt printing companies will provide a range of free clip art, fonts, and graphics that can be used to send the message you want. However, if you do have your own art to upload, you can certainly use it to create those unique, one of a kind tee shirt designs.

Designing a tee shirt starts with having an idea of what you want to say. This may be a political statement, it may include a funny or serious message, or it could be used simply to display a design or graphic you have created. It really doesn’t matter what you want to use to design your own T shirt, it just matters you get the result you want.

Think in Scale

When you design your own T shirt logo or graphic, it is important to think about how it will look on a larger t-shirt as opposed to a small box on your computer screen. Not all designs look as appealing when they are larger, while some actually get better the larger they are.

If you are designing on a laptop or even on a smart-phone, be sure to take the time to have the design printed out the actual size it will be on the t-shirt to avoid disappointment.

Look for Color Issues

When designing a custom t-shirt, the colors of the design, the font, and even the color of the shirt itself are all factors to consider. Border colors on the design should not be the same color or a close color to the color of the t-shirt.

Often, colors are difficult to match completely with the inks and dyes used in custom printing. If you design your own T shirt logo, choose a t-shirt with a contrasting color or use a black border around the image or logo to avoid this issue.

Last but not least, it is important to carefully consider the message or image you are using when you design your own T shirt. Sometimes, and without meaning to be offensive, designs and messages can have more than one possible meaning. Always double check any symbolism or language used on the shirt to avoid this type of issue, especially if you are selling the shirts or using them as promotional items.
