When your odometer ceases to function the way that it is supposed to, many people feel that they must replace the entire thing, instead of opting for Odometer Repair in New Mexico. It is possible however, to fix the odometer and save the cost of replacing it.

While it is best to have a professional replace the part for you, there is a way that you can do it yourself. Read on for some tips on Odometer Repair in New Mexico that you preform yourself.

First, you will need to disconnect the negative cable from the battery of your car.

Then, you will want to take the flat head of a flat head screwdriver and pry the face of the odometer away from the dashboard. After you remove the gasket, you will want to gently remove the entire odometer from the dashboard. Be careful with this step, as you don’t want to break the odometer and end up having to replace it anyway, when you are trying to repair it instead. You also need to be careful not to disconnect the wire as you do this.

Now, lay the gauge face down on the surface that you are working on and take the screws out of the back with a regular sized screwdriver. Once you have taken the screws out, gently turn the gauge face up on the work surface and you are ready to begin work.

You will want to grab the post that is used to reset the odometer and then pull it out gently but firmly. Do not try to force it, as you will end up having to buy a new one if you are not careful. You will then want to remove the speedometer needle gently as well. Once you have removed everything, place the replacement gear into the odometer, and repeat the process to put the odometer back in place.

These are just a few tips to help you repair your odometer instead of having to replace it. If you follow the tips above, you will be up and running again in no time at all
