When it comes to plumbing, half the battle is having the right tools and equipment. Fortunately, it’s easy to get everything you need for the average project from a good hardware store. If you haven’t done any plumbing projects before, you’ll need to start with some basic tools. Here are some that are commonly needed:
Pipe Wrenches
A pipe wrench is the most basic Plumbing Supply in Manhattan, and for good reason: It’s what allows you to get pipes apart! One of the first things that you’ll notice about these tools is their size and heft. That long handle doesn’t just allow you to reach the targeted pipe fittings; it also allows you to get the leverage you need to move parts that have likely become at least partially seized. The weight of a pipe wrench can also help you move stubborn fittings, though this part only works from certain angles.
The average pipe wrench has a large range of adjustability, so you can use a single wrench for many sizes of fittings. Even so, there is a limit to this adaptability. If your pipes are outside of that range, you’ll need a different pipe wrench.
Joint Compound
Also known as pipe dope, this paste is needed when you install new metal pipe fittings. It keeps water from being able to leak out through the fittings’ threads. For a while, it also helps to keep pipes from seizing. The latter effect, however, only lasts for a while. If it’s been 10 years since a fitting was last moved, you’ll have a bit of a job ahead of you to free it up whether the pipes were doped or not.
Pipes and Fittings
These parts may seem like obvious must-haves, but someone just embarking on a project can become so focused on wrenches and other equipment that it becomes easy to walk out of the store without the most essential Plumbing Supply in Manhattan. Make sure to add any pipes and fittings that you need to your shopping list to avoid having to make a quick return trip.
