It is sometimes hard to find the right place to live in Santa Monica. Luxury condos for sale in Santa Monica are few and far between. In fact, it is often difficult to find any form of accommodation at all. This is because Santa Monica is a very popular place with its pedestrian friendly downtown and a pier dating from the early years of the 20th century.

Downtown Santa Monica

Downtown Santa Monica is known for several things. It is popular because of its three-mile pedestrian stretch of shopping. This is the Third Street Promenade. Here, you can wander without fear of encountering a car. Wander in and out of various shops and stop to watch a variety of street performers.

The downtown is also home to Santa Monica Place. This is an indoor mall constructed in 1980 but redeveloped in 2010 as both a shopping and entertainment center. If, however, you like to get in touch with the rural aspect of the area, go downtown on Wednesdays and Saturdays to visit the Farmers’ Market. If you are lucky enough to hear about luxury condos for sale in close proximity to the Downtown, do not hesitate. It will give you a chance to meet residents and local restaurant chefs at the food tent that pops up on Arizona Avenue.

Retail Therapy – Shopping

If you plan to shop in Santa Monica, consider what is available. The city actually has three main districts to explore. These are:

1. Montana Avenue – north end featuring luxury shops and small high end boutiques
2. Main Street – south is eclectic in it style and offerings including specialty retail outlets
3. Downtown District – core of the city

Downtown District

Some see the Downtown as the heart of Santa Monica. It is where you go to shop continuously along a three-mile stretch. Here, you must rely on your feet. It is a pedestrian mall known as the Third Street promenade. Along its length you can find everything from brand name designers to new and unusual fashion creators. Besides apparel, you can also purchase almost everything that could interest you including books, lighting, action figures and vintage animation.

At its south end you can find the famous Santa Monica Place an early work designed by the famous architect Frank Gehry in 1980. It contains more shops to enjoy whether you actually purchase anything or are merely window-shopping. Whether the choice is the traditional apparel at Bloomingdale’s or the younger touch at the Gap, day spas, jewelry and accessories or between fast food and restaurants, Santa Monica Place has them all.

Luxury condos for sale in Santa Monica do not come up very often. When they do, consider what they can offer you. You can become a part of the city’s lively downtown and, if you prefer nature, the nearby Santa Monica Pier, beach and mountains.
