An engagement ring is oftentimes the first big investment that someone makes in their future relationship. If you’re looking to buy an engagement ring for your eventual spouse, you’ll probably choose to go with a diamond.  For close to one hundred years, they have been the most popular kinds of engagement rings. The precious stones are very old and very valuable, which makes them perfect symbols of a long-lasting love. They represent an unbreakable bond. However, not all diamonds are the same.

EGL and GIA

There are two primary grading standards for diamonds in NYC. These two grades are EGL and GIA grades. EGL is somewhat less stringent. In these standards, diamonds are ranked by clarity, color, and several other factors. A stone will pretty much always have a higher EGL grade than GIA grade since EGL has less rigorous standards. It is easier to get a high grade in the EGL scale. Whatever you choose, it’s good to be informed as to how these stones get their grades.

Wide Selection

Diamonds are found in just about every continent of the planet. They are created when carbon minerals are compressed very tightly over time. They can be formed through many different processes, which is why they are found all over the world. That means a great supplier should have stones from various places, and multiple options for you to choose from. A wide selection not only means that you’ll be able to find stones of different qualities, but you’ll also be able to choose different colors. An even bigger selection will offer you a greater choice of colors, cuts, shapes, and sources. Unfortunately, there are still many sellers who offer diamonds that are sourced inhumanely from conflict areas. If you choose a supplier that has a diverse field of gems, however, you can avoid buying conflict stones.

Pick highly rated gems from a supplier with a diverse selection and you’ll be happy with your engagement ring.
