Library offers a platform that enables collaborative learning and encourages creativity. With this aim, the concept of a book bank has come into existence. A book can be the best friend of a person. It enlightens one’s soul leading him/her to a prosperous future. But in a poor country like India where many children go to sleep with an empty stomach, reading a book seems a luxury. Even many children are deprived of nutritious foods and education. The way many NGOs are working hard to reach food to the poor families, some organisations are stretching on education and building book bank in India.
What is a book bank?
A Book bank is a section of a library that contains a bunch of textbooks, reference books, and other miscellaneous books to help people read more and explore more. Book banks run by NGOs are intended to help poor children who can’t afford to buy a book. Only education can help our society progress. Therefore, more book banks are needed.
Different organisations offer book bank in India to different groups of users. It may vary from one library to another. Most of the colleges have this facility that can benefit economically backward students, and SC, ST, and OBC students.
Some book banks extend their hands to support differently-abled students having an impressive academic background. In most of these banks, the users are asked to show their Below Poverty Line card or any other certificate that can prove their claim.
The establishment of book bank supports the meritorious economically and socially backward students. This way book bank in India greatly contributes to the entire education system of the country. It is helping countless students in completing their education and achieving degrees without any hassles.
With the joint efforts of the central and states governments and the NGS, colleges should try to increase the capacity of their book bank.
