Being in an Auto Wreck in OKC is an overwhelming experience, regardless of how mild the damages are to your vehicle. Many people feel as though their injuries are not life threatening, so they avoid seeking medical attention, but there are several injuries that may not show symptoms until several days after the accident. Some of the most common delayed symptoms of serious injuries may include headaches, stiffness, dizziness, pain, insomnia and/or nausea. If you are in an automobile accident, the first thing to remember is to stay calm. If you are able to access a cell phone, contact 911 and remain in the vehicle, unless you are able to get out and the vehicle is in a dangerous area, such as in the middle of the road. It is important to accept medical attention at the scene of the accident and to report any symptoms you may be experiencing to the medics on the scene. One of the most common and life-threatening injuries resulting from an automobile accident is a brain injury. A traumatic brain injury can happen if you hit your head on the inside of the vehicle or if you experience a sudden jolt upon impact with the other vehicle. Symptoms of a brain injury may include vomiting, headaches, loss of consciousness, dizziness, memory loss, speech problems and/or anxiety. This type of injury can be life-threatening if you do not receive immediate medical attention.

Another common injury sustain in an automobile accident is spinal cord injuries. A spinal cord injury can result in permanent paralysis. It is also sometimes difficult to identify the injuries immediately, because you may not have any visible lacerations or bruising. Even if you were wearing your seat belt at the time of the accident, it is important to have a full examination, including x-rays to make sure there is no damage to your spine. Although it is important to wear your seat belt while in an automobile, sometimes injuries occur from the seat belt at the time of impact as a result of the seat belt tightening against your body. When not wearing a seat belt, internal injuries can occur from sudden thrashing of your body, slamming your body against the inside of the car and/or items being forced against your body, such as a collapsed roof. Internal injuries may include damages to your lungs, liver, kidneys, heart and/or spleen.
