There are many people that shy away from having their teeth straightened because they do not like the looks of traditional metal braces. For these people, Invisalign Chicago may be the perfect solution; they will end up with perfectly aligned teeth but not have to face the possible embarrassment of having to wear metal brackets and wires.
How does Invisalign work?
As the name implies, Invisalign is a clear, almost invisible tray that fits over your teeth slowly moving them to their ideal position. Traditional metal braces consist of brackets on each tooth; the brackets support a wire that is tightened. Brackets straighten teeth by pulling them into position.
Invisalign consists of a series of clear plastic trays, each one a little different. The tray exerts force on the teeth, slowly pushing them into the desired position. About every two weeks the dentist will provide you with a new tray, slightly different than the one you are currently wearing.
Invisalign is used to treat a range of orthodontic problems including overbite, under bite, tooth crowding and closes gaps between teeth.
How long does the process take?
There are variables of course but on average the treatment time is 12 months. Each new aligner moves the teeth ¼ mm, the more movement that is needed to correct the problem the longer the treatment takes. One great benefit of Invisalign is the fact that they can be readily removed but it is suggested that to minimize the treatment time they be worn at least 22 hours a day a new one used every two weeks.
What are the major benefits?
Over and above the fact that you will not be self conscious when wearing Invisalign Chicago they can be removed, something that is not possible with traditional metal braces. If you are going to attend a special event, take them out. They can be removed when you clean your teeth and the foods you can eat are not limited; if pizza and popcorn are things you like you can go right ahead and eat them.
