There is nothing worse than waking up to find your home engulfed in flames, but the aftermath can be pretty challenging at well. Fire Damage can leave you feeling hopeless and uncertain of where to begin to get the water and soot out of your home. Below you will find some tips for how to deal with smoke damage on your own while you wait for the professionals to come repair the damage for you.
Open Your Windows
The first thing you will want to do after any type of Fire Damage is to open the windows and doors. The smell from the fire will be awful and you don’t want to breathe in soot and smoke as you go about restoring your home to order. Open every window and door you can find, making sure that the breeze blows through and carries the smoke with it.
Grab Some Fans
You will want to grab as many fans as possible and point them outdoors. Set them up in windows, in front of both doors leading to the outside and in front of all of the bedrooms if possible. This will help draw the smoke out of your home and allow you to take inventory and start the cleanup process as soon as possible. Remember that you have to have the all clear from your local fire department before you head back inside your home to perform any type of cleanup.
Use a Vacuum Cleaner
You will want to get mask to wear as you start cleaning the soot out of your home, so that you don’t get sick. Then you should take your vacuum cleaner and try to get up as much of the soot as possible, before starting in on the walls with an industrial strength cleaner. You should be able to talk to your local fire chief and see what he recommends as a cleaner as well.
These are just a few of the tips that can help you start restoring order to your home after a fire. You can also call in Black Label Restoration to take a look around and give you any help that is needed as well.
